POP Magazine x YOOX x GarconJon

photo IMG_9769s.jpg This month, POP Magazine asked me to be photographed for a collaboration with designer e-tailer YOOX.com.  After looking at the threads, I couldn't resist getting into some top notch 1950s garb. Tell us about your personal style…
As a photographer it’s important to be comfortable. I love wider leg pants & traditional workwear. There’s usually a vintage element to most of my outfits so I tend to rely on items from the 1950/60s. I’d say it’s quite classic, I know what works for me & I stick with it.
Do you have a style icon? Who?
The true style icons for me are everyday men who really made an effort. The old boys who still put on their suit to pick up a paper on a Sunday morning. London is particularly exciting when it comes to men dressing well. Thinking about men in the public eye, it’s the movie starts of the 50s & 60s who really inspire me. Montgomery Clift and Paul Newman spring to mind.
What period of history do you like the most for its fashion?
The late 50s, early 1960s in America. I love the mixture of practical workwear in its simplest form like Levi’s and a white tee, juxtaposed with traditional menswear with a double breasted peak lapel wool suit.
Who are your favourite fashion designers and why?
I love what Stefano Pilati has done at Zenga. I’d wear every item. I’m also enjoying Prada this season & never get bored of Margaret Howell.
What does it take for an outfit to be perfect?
A good fit. Both physically & metaphorically.
